The UC Santa Barbara women's track & field team defeated Cal Poly 103-90 in a dual meet held Saturday at UCSB's Pauley Track. Fifth year senior Liz Mallon set the tone for the Gaucho's, winning the first event of the day, the 3000m steeplechase, and five more UCSB women won their events under beautiful, sunny skies.
Mallon became the eighth Gaucho this season to qualify for the NCAA Regional championships by winning the steeplechase in a personal record 10:56.45 over Ashley Deere of Cal Poly who finished second in 11:00.04. Laura Zung (11:33.33), Rebecca Zamolo (11:53.81), and Alisa Gammon (12:04.83) all also recorded personal bests in the event.

wiggle off the standard. Amy Haapanen had the second best throw in Gaucho history to win the hammer with a huge personal best of 162' 1.5" and also won
the discus with a toss of 144' 5.25". Danielle DeBeaubien won the javelin with a best throw of 120' 1.25" and Annita Reuben finished second in the long jump
