PALO ALTO, Calif. - Deborah Samson cleared a season best 12-11.75 to finish second in the elite section of the pole vault on Saturday at the Stanford Invitational. Senior team captain Katie Appenrodt recorded an NCAA provisional mark in the 10,000 meter (35:15.00),covering the 25-lap race in a time of 35:02.08.
Freshman Elise Geiger ran 25.12 for the 200 meter, the fourth fastest time in Gaucho history. Geiger's mark was also a Big West Conference qualifier. Fifth-year senior Liz Mallon narrowly missed the NCAA Regional qualifier in the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:00.00) by knocking 20 seconds off her PR in the event to finish in a time of 11:01.49 which is second all-time at UCSB.
Sophomore Cosette Smith posted a personal best 4:33.87 in the 1500 meter which is the seventh best time in UCSB history. Desiree DeJesus won her section of the 5,000 meter in a lifetime best 17:31.65.
Other women's highlights included a 141-7 toss by Heather Quinn in the discus, freshman Lauren Christman notching a PR in the 800 meter (2:17.44) and season bests by Annita Reuben in the long jump (17-7) and Stephanie Rothstein in the 1500 meter (4:46.81).
