SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara women's track and field squad posted fine marks at the Cal Poly Invitational Saturday in San Luis Obispo. Part of the Gaucho squad also competed at the Baldy Castillo Invitational in Tempe, Ariz.
Highlights of the meet included sophomore Desiree Leek's race in the 1500 meter. Leek blazed to a time of 4:33.18 to win the race over conference rival Wendy Chan of UC Irvine (4:34.08) and Kathryn Schegel of Cal Poly (4:34.10). The NCAA Regional mark in the event is 4:31.00.
Kayla Petitt, a new addition to Gaucho squad, cleared 5-4.25 in the high jump. Petitt competed for the UCSB Swimming team earlier this year.
