SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State women's tennis team defeated UC Santa Barbara , 4-3, in women's tennis action on Sunday afternoon at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club in Sacramento, Calif.
UC Santa Barbara won two of three doubles matches to gain the doubles point. Hornet Ann Roslund paired, despite suffering from a sprained ankle, with Yasmin Kashef, but were defeated by Uzma Khan and Marielle Gruenig, 8-3. Gauchos Leslie Damion and Andrea Pintar beat Roberta Fessenko and Amanda Sanches, 8-4, at the No. 2 spot. Hornets Petra Abraham and Cristina Rivieccio prevented the sweep as they defeated Chelsea Dillon and Jen Kuhle, 8-5.
In singles play, Sacramento State won four of six matches. Junior Abraham defeated Pintar (6-3, 6-1) at the No. 3, sophomore Sanches defeated Damion (6-4, 6-2), sophomore Rivieccio defeated Kuhle (7-6 (7-2), 6-0), and junior Kashef defeated Amy Vyhnis (6-2, 6-4) for the Hornet victory.
The Gauchos earned two singles points as Khan defeated sophomore Fessenko in the No. 1 slot (6-2, 6-4) and Hornet junior Roslund retired to Gruenig (2-0) at No. 2.
