SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - 57th-ranked Nevada won five out of six singles matches and the doubles point en route to a 6-1 victory over UC Santa Barbara on Saturday afternoon in Santa Barbara.
Junior Charlotte Scatliffe's come-from-behind win at No. 3 singles helped the Gauchos avert a shutout. Scatliffe dropped the first to Ly-Huong Dinh set before battling back for a 1-6, 7-5, (10-8) win. Freshman Tova Hausman almost did the same at No. 5 singles as she lost a tough 6-0, 2-6, 6-4 decision to Nevada's Fiorella Velez.
At No. 1 singles, Wolf Pack freshman Maria Mizyuk swept Gaucho junior Marta Simic, 6-1, 6-2. UCSB freshman Carina Bjornstrom dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Caroline Bailly at No. 2 singles.
The loss drops the Gauchos to 5-6 on the season while Nevada improves to 8-7.
Santa Barbara returns to action on Thursday, March 29 when it hosts Westmont College in a match that will start at 1:30 p.m.
