SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -
Junior forward Randi Johns took a clearing pass from sophomore defender Heather Allen, dribbled 25-yards into the penalty box, past several defenders and then drove a shot beyond the reach of goalkeeper Melissa Onstad and into the upper-left corner of the goal, giving UC Santa Barbara a 2-1 overtime win over Oregon State Friday night. The goal, Johns' third of the season, came at the 91:37 mark of the match.
UCSB scored first in the contest at 12:07, and Johns was involved in that goal as well. The transfer from Cypress Community College drove down the right sideline and fed a pass to junior midfielder Krystal Sandza. Sandza dribbled into the box, faked one shot and then drilled the ball into the upper left corner. It was her fourth score of the year.
The Beavers tied the score at 69:20 when midfielder Lindsey Beem hit a perfect cross to Kelli Washburn who headed the ball past Gaucho goalkeeper Jamie Considine. For Washburn, a native of Santa Barbara, the goal was her first of the season.
UCSB and Oregon State combined for just 19 shots in the match and each goalkeeper produced four saves.
The victory gives UCSB a three-game winning streak and a record of 4-2-1. Oregon State drops to 3-3-1 on the year. The Gauchos return to action on Sunday when they host Xavier in a 1:00 p.m. match at Harder Stadium.
