LONG BEACH, Calif. -
Jennifer Borcich scored two goals and added an assist, and four other players scored their first goals of the season as the UC Santa Barbara women's soccer team blanked Southern Utah 6-0 on Friday afternoon in the Long Beach Classic.
Borcich scored both of her goals late in the second half of the match, the first coming at the 71:32 mark and the second at the 75:43 mark. They were two of the final three goals that the Gauchos scored in the match.
Junior Cinthia Ruiz opened the scoring for UCSB at the 8:48 mark when she scored off a rebound from a Krystal Sandza shot. Freshman Darci Gwartz tallied the first goal of her career off of a Borcich pass. Gwartz scored from about 25-yards out.
With just over two minutes left in the first half, junior Molly Martin notched her first goal of the season. Martin took a pass from Sandza and scored on a shot from right up the middle. Borcich made it 4-0 Gauchos with her first goal, assisted by Morgan Tanner.
Sophomore midfielder Kristyn Bright drilled a shot from 18-yards out to score her first goal of the campaign, an unassisted goal at the 74:01 mark. Bright then assisted on Borcich's second goal just over a minute later.
Jamie Considine worked the first 80:20 in goal for UCSB, earning her second win of the season. She was, however, not tested, as she needed no saves to post the sin. UCSB outshot the Thunderbirds by a 32-3 margin. In addition, the Gauchos piled-up 11 corner kicks while Southern Utah did not have a corner kick.
