LOS ANGELES, Calif. -
The UC Santa Barbara women's soccer team, playing its third ranked opponent in as many matches, posted a scoreless tie at second-ranked UCLA on Wednesday night.
The Gauchos, coming off of a 4-0 win at 25th-ranked Charlotte on Sunday night, played their highest-ranked opponent since playing top-ranked North Carolina in 1989, and thanks in great part to sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Considine, they came away with a draw.
UCLA outshot UCSB by a count of 18-7 in the match, but Considine produced a season-high seven saves in her 110 minutes of action. The biggest of Considine's saves came in the 14th minute of overtime, when Bruin midfielder Stacy Lindstrom blasted a shot from short-range. Considine was able to get a finger on the ball, sending it wide.
Offensively, the Gauchos were paced by junior midfielder Krystal Sandza who had a pair of shots. UCLA forward Iris Mora led all players with five shots in the match.
The win improves UCSB's record to 1-1-1, the only loss coming on the road against 12th-ranked Tennessee. UCLA is now 1-0-2 on the year.
UCSB returns to action on Sunday, September 7, when it returns to UCLA's Spaulding Field to take on St. Mary's College in a neutral field match beginning at Noon.
