CHARLOTTE, N.C. -
Led by junior forward Jennifer Borcich, UC Santa Barbara bounced back from an opening-match shutout in a big way, blanking 25th-ranked UNC Charlotte, 4-0.
Borcich scored a pair of goals, the first coming in the 21st minute on a header off of an assist from sophomore Heather Allen, a transfer from Loyola Marymount.
Junior midfielder Krystal Sandza made it 2-0 Gauchos when she took a pass from Emilee Schwimmer and scored from 25-yards out in the 54th minute. For Sandza, who set a Big West record with 25 goals in 2002, it was her first of the season.
Borcich scored her second of the season and match in the 73rd minute when she took a feed from sophomore defender Amber Squire and drilled a shot from about 15 yards out. Junior forward Randi Johns, a transfer from Cypress Community College, capped the scoring for UCSB with an unassisted goal in the 84th minute.
The win improves UCSB's record to 1-1 on the season.
