There's No Substitute For Size
Like all of UCSB's freshmen in 2006-07, Jessie Goble was thrown into the mix from the get go. With the departure of forwards Emily Niemann and Shantel Thomas prior to the season, as well as the loss of Kat Suderman to a medical redshirt year, Goble had the opportunity to play her first season in the blue and gold and became a valuable reserve in the front court. At 6-foot-3, the native of Fallbrook, Calif. served as a backup to Jenna Green last season and appeared in 25 contests, posting averages of 0.3 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 0.3 blocked shots per game.
Get That Outta Here
While Goble played just 118 minutes as a freshman last season -- the fourth fewest total on the team -- she did manage to record eight blocked shots. Only Jenna Green, Meagan Williams, Jessica Wilson, and LaShay Fears had more total blocks on the season and those four players played an average of 873 minutes in 2006-07. Goble's defense off the bench will be critical for the Gauchos' second unit again in 2007-08.
