2007 Season
Smith was one of the top runners on the team in 2007, finishing in the top two positions in several races...Was the second Gaucho across the line and 39th overall at the NCAA West Regional, completing 10k in 31:09...Led the Gauchos at the Big West Championships, completing the 8k race in seventh overall at 25:38...Was fourth on the team at the NCAA Pre-Nationals, finishing 8k in 24:57.

Adjusting to the new 8,000m distance, Smith ran a good freshman best of 25:38 at the Stanford Invitational in late September.
High School
Smith had a breakout senior year posting some of the top times in the state of California. He had the ninth fastest 1600m mark with a 4:12.25 which he got en route to winning the Southern Coast Section Div. I Championships. A week later he would race the sixth fastest 3200m mark in the state at the SS Masters meet to advance to the state championships with a mark of 9:06.43. In 2005 he also was the Orange County Champion at 1600m with a personal best performance at the time of 4:13.97 adding to it later in the day with a win in the 3200m. At the 2004 State finals in Cross Country, Smith finished 40th overall.
