The UC Santa Barbara men's volleyball team lost three close games to the UCLA Bruins Wednesday, 30-26, 30-28, 30-28. The Bruins improve to 7-7 overall, 4-6 in conference play, while the Gauchos fall to 5-11 for the season, 2-8 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
Matt McKinney led the Bruin attack, with 14 kills for the match. Next up was Jonathan Acosta with 12 kills and a .350 average. Chris Pena scored the most blocks for UCLA, with 6 total and Adam Schrader had 6 digs for the defense.k
Justin Adams led the Gauchos' offense with 16 kills, and a .542 clip. Jan Carlo Zegarra was also in double digits for kills, with 10. Adams and Zegarra also both totaled 7 blocks for the match. Aaron Mansfield notched 5 digs for the UCSB defense. Overall, the Gauchos out-hit the Bruins 50-43 (.268-.235) and out-blocked the Bruins 18.5-11. The Gauchos' 19 service errors clinched the win for the Bruins.
Up next UCSB travels to #7 Long Beach State Friday, and UC San Diego on Saturday.
