After losing in straight games to conference foe BYU last night, the UC Santa Barbara men's volleyball team turned the tables in night two, as the Gauchos defeated the Cougars by the same 3-0 score.
Three UCSB players had double figure kill totals, led by senior Keith Busam's match-high 15 kills, Jan Carlo Zegarra and Matt Boelk each had 11. Freshman setter Bart Kowalkski ended the night with a match-high 39 assists to go with his one kill. The Gauchos received an impressive defensive performance from middle blocker Justin Adams, whose five total blocks, three solo blocks, and four digs were all match-highs.
BYU on the other hand struggled at the net with no players reaching more than nine kills in the match. Jonathan Alleman paced the Cougars with nine kills in 17 attempts. BYU as a team only managed to hit .297, compared to UCSB's impressive .467 hitting percentage.
With the win the Gauchos improve to 5-10 on the year and 2-7 in the MPSF. The Cougars dropped to 5-10 and 3-6 in the MPSF.
Santa Barbara next hosts UCLA in a conference match-up this Wednesday, February 19th in Robertson Gym at 7:05 p.m.
