The UC Santa Barbara men's volleyball team fell to Pacific Friday at Robertson Gym, 30-24, 31-29, 28-30, 30-19. The Tigers improve to 5-4 overall, 2-1 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play.
Sophomore opposite, Nils Dauburs led the Tigers with 32 kills (.532), 3 blocks, and 11 digs. Senior outside hitter Martin Berntsen also came through for Pacific with 22 kills, hitting a .559 percentage. The Tigers outhit the Gauchos .416 to .261. Mike Gawlik also notched up 14 digs to lead the Tigers' defense.
The Gauchos' lead hitters were Keith Busam, with 14 and a .267 percentage; Michael Kennedy, with 12 kills and a .308 clip; and Justin Adams, hitting .375 with 13 kills. The Gauchos beat Pacific in blocking 10 to 9 total team blocks. Aaron Mansfield finished the match with 10 digs.
Pacific took the lead early in the first game, and came out ahead, 1 game to 0. The Gauchos fought back in the second game, leading to 26-29, but the Tigers gained 5 consecutive points to win the second game. UCSB took the lead again in the third game and were able to hang on to win it, 30-28. In the fourth game the Tigers came back strong, winning the game and match.
