Santa Barbara, Calif.- Evan Patak had career-high 31 kills and hit .510 to lead UC Santa Barbara men's volleyball team to 27-30, 31-29, 20-30, 30-26, 11-15 win over Hawaii Friday night.
The Gauchos, now 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, hit .310 as a team. Outside hitter Jake Wiens aided with 20 kills and 2 blocks. Michael Kennedy contributed to the Gauchos both offensively and defensively with seven kills and seven blocks total while hitting a .545 percentage. Setter Dane Jensen assisted with a match-high of 65 assists and set .489 for the match. Libero Aaron Mansfield accumulated 15 digs.
Outside hitter Matt Bender had a team high 25 kills and a .327 hitting percentage. Warriors also received major contributions from Delano Thomas, who had 20 kills and three blocks while hitting .326. Freshman setter Brian Beckwith had 60 assists and set .469 overall for the match.
UCSB ranked ninth in the national rankings will face a rematch with Cal State Northridge next Friday, Jan. 23 at 7:00 pm in Rob Gym. The Gauchos lost to the Matadors in four games during the UCSB/ Elephant Bar tournament last week.
