SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Steven Klosterman had 22 kills and hit .462 to lead UCLA to a 30-19, 29-31, 30-21, 30-26, 15-12 win over Cal State Northridge in the championship match of the 40th Annual UCSB/Elephant Bar Collegiate Invitaional on Saturday night.

The Bruins, now 3-0, hit .435 as a team. Klosterman was aided by Damien Scott who had 11 kils and hit .588 and Kris Kraushaar who had 11 kills and a .368 hitting percentage. Cal State Northridge, which defeated UC Santa Barbara and top-seeded Long Beach State to advance to the championship match, was led by Dan Rhodes who had 25 kills and hit .362. Jeff Taylor added 13 kills for the Matadors.

Jake Wiens had 17 kills and hit .500 to lead the UC Santa Barbara past UC Irvine in the fifth-place match of the tournament. The game scores were 30-28, 30-25 and 30-24.

In addition to Wiens' outstanding performance, the Gauchos got major contributions from Adam Ulfers, who had 12 kills and hit .400, and Evan Patak, who had 13 kills and hit .280. As a team, Santa Barbara hit an outstanding .377. UC Irvine was paced by Jayson Jalonsky who had 11 kills and hit .550.

UCSB got to the fifth-place match after posting a 30-17, 30-23, 30-23 win over Stanford earlier in the day. In that contest, Ulfers led the way with seven kills. Nate Wack, Alejandro Parra and Justin Adams each had six kills. In all, the Gauchos had seven players with five or more kills and they hit .385 for the match. The Cardinal hit just .246.

With the two wins on the day, Santa Barbara improves to 3-1 on the year.
