Despite some fine individual performances, the UC Santa Barbara men's track & field team fell to Cal Poly 107-88 in a dual meet held Saturday at UCSB's Pauley Track.
Sophomore Scott Brandos overcame a ten meter deficit on the last lap to lean out Luke Llamas of Cal Poly in the 3000mSC, crossing the line in a personal best 9:06.14, that improves his standing on the NCAA West Regional list and moves him to 8th on the All-time UCSB list. Llamas' second place effort was also a lifetime best 9:06.17. Junior Nohel Corral cracked the 48 second barrier for the first time, winning the 400m in 47.59 (#6 All-time UCSB), just off the NCAA Regional mark of 47.45. Corral also took second in the 200m at 21.90.
Preston Biller won the long jump in a lifetime best 23' 5.5", and the triple jump in a seasonal best 45' 3.25". Ryan Lockner's second place effort of 51' 7.5" in the shot put ranks 7th on the All-time UCSB list, and represents the first Gaucho athlete to crack the top ten in the event in 15 years.
Freshman Tetlo Emmen won the 800m in 1:51.44 (#8 All-time UCSB). Emmen knocked over a second off his lifetime best in the event and just missed the
Regional mark of 1:51.15. Ryan McGinnis made the Big West standard in the event, running 1:53.87 and Carter Phelps also ran a lifetime best 1:57.66.
Scott McConville's second place finish in 3:52.90 in the 1500m, led a group of fast times for Gaucho distance runners in the event. Bryon Lamorandier,
running his first track race in two years, finished fourth in 3:54.29, Aaron Sharp had a seasonal best 3:54.63, while Chris White (3:54.71) and JT Service
(3:56.56) both recorded personal bests.

Ryan Donnelly had a busy day, running season bests in the 100m (11.13) and 200m (22.28), leaping 23' 2.25" in the long jump, anchoring the 4x100m to a season best 41.55, and running the lead-off leg on the 4x400m relay. Emmen anchored the 4x4 to a season best 3:18.97. Isaac Herrera logged PR's in the 100m (11.29) and long jump (23' 03.5") as did Kent Centers in the 400IH (55.64).
Eugene Bradley won the hammer with a best throw of 151' 4.75". Freshmen Nathan Welsh (142' 11.25"), Shuan Tolnay (132' 9.5"), and Matt Mettler (132' 4.75") all had lifetime bests in the event.
