2002 Recap: Injuries took its toll on Rider's season but the senior managed to take 4th place in the conference steeplechase, and 5th in the challenge cup 3k, behind 3 of his own teammates.
2001: Red shirted his fourth year, but still clocked personal bests in the 3k (8:22), steeple (9:26), 5k (14:26), and 10k (30:25). His 5k and 10k marks would rank on the school's all time list as 7th and 10th respectively.
2000: Set the 10,000m meet record at the FILA Olympic Trials Qualifier meet...Ran the fourth fastest 5000m of the year in the Big West with a 14:34.08 and the sixth fastest 10,000m crossing the finish in 31:29. Also the top finisher in the 3000m at the Big West Challenge Cup.
1999: Personal best of 15:03 in the 5k. Scored in the Cal/Nevada Championships, placing 9th in the 5,000 meter race.
1998: Ran a best of 8:46.97 in the 3,000m race at UCLA to finish 8th of 21 opponents.... clocked a best of 4:01.00 in the 1500 and 15:32.30 in the 5,000m event.
High School:
Rider got a late start to the sport of running after spending most of his high school career as a member of the California top-10 ranked Scripps Ranch Basketball team. As a senior, in his first year of cross country, Rider finished 16th in the 1996 CA Division II race. His time of 15:57 helped him earn runner up honors for "San Diego County Male Runner of the Year" by San Diego Track Magazine.
In his only season of track, Rider incurred a season ending injury in April. Prior to this, his personal bests were a 9:50.05 3,200 and a 4:27.79 1,600.
