SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The No. 74 ranked UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team showed considerable depth today as nine different squad members saw action in the 7-0 sweep of the visiting UC Riverside Highlanders. Senior Jerome Chan was the only Gaucho to pull double duty, winning at both No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles. The remaining Gauchos rested during either the singles or doubles competition to be fresh for Sunday's battle with No. 34 ranked San Diego State.
Today's 7-0 win was the second consecutive shut out without the loss of a single set for UCSB. Mike Placek took over the No. 1 singles spot, defeating Norman Tam 6-3, 6-3.
The Gauchos, 10-8 overall, host No. 34 ranked San Diego State Sunday at UCSB's RecCen Courts at noon. UCSB finishes the dual match season this week with UC San Diego Tuesday and No. 35 ranked USD Saturday.
