EUGENE, Ore. - UCSB's No. 1 singles player Carlos Palancia, ranked No. 55 nationally, defeated Oregon's Manuel Kost 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the Gauchos' 6-1 loss to the Ducks. Oregon swept the Gauchos in doubles to win the doubles point. The Gauchos could only manage one singles win in the loss.

UCSB is 5-4 overall while Oregon moved to 7-1.

The Gauchos travel to La Jolla this weekend for the Pacific Coast Doubles Tournament before returning to host Virginia and UC Irvine March 7 and 8. The match March 8 with the Anteaters is UCSB's first Big West dual match of the 2003 season.
