MALIBU, Calif. (AP) - Terrance Johnson scored 21 points and Jimmy Miggins had 17 as Pepperdine beat UC Santa Barbara 72-68 Saturday.

The Waves (3-2) held off a late rally by the Gauchos (3-3) to win their third straight game.

UC Santa Barbara trailed 55-44 with 8:25 left but went on a 19-10 run to pull within two with 2:43 remaining, but would get no closer. The run was powered by five three-pointers, three from Mark Hull, in a four-minute span.

Hull led UC Santa Barbara with 18 points.

Pepperdine used a 12-4 run in the second half to grab a 53-42 lead with 10:05 remaining after trailing by as many as 7 in the first half.

The teams went back and forth in a first half that saw five lead changes. Pepperdine, however, gained momentum going into the break, getting two quick baskets in the last minute to take a 38-32 halftime lead.

The Waves were playing without starting senior point guard Devin Montgomery, who will be sidelined indefinitely after fracturing his right thumb against Cal State Fullerton Wednesday night.
